REVIEW: the Tantus Prostate Play. Good, but far from greatness

After a few good sessions with the Prostate Play, I’m happy to write this review! All in all, this is a nice product. Not great, but good. The reasonable price point makes it a great contender among the other ones I’ve reviewed.

NOTE: The folks at Tantus were kind enough to send me this toy, free of charge, for an honest review. This has no bearing on how I feel about the toy, positive or negative.

Before we get started, I have a few comments about this toy.

If you’ve visited my blog before, you’ll know I’m a HUGE fan of prostate vibrators. This is the very first Tantus product I had the pleasure to try out. When they offered to send me this vibrator, I jumped at the chance!

Overall, I’m impressed. The silicone body feels quite luxurious. The texture is perfect for anal play and makes for easy clean up. The Play fits perfectly between the butt cheeks, too! It’s comfortable and not too bulky.

Tantus silicone is one of the best on the market, in my opinion.

One of my favorite attributes: it’s 100% waterproof, which makes it great for using in the shower, or anywhere else!

The removable vibrator does a good job of buzzing the area down there. It’s not quite as strong as I’d like (the Billy vibes are much stronger), but it gets the job done. The sensations are focused more toward the bottom of the device, around your butt hole. They aren’t very strong at the most important part…the bulbous tip, which nudges against the prostate. This is a bit of a disappointment, as I was hoping for more. It’s not a dealbreaker, though, and it still feels wonderfully orgasmic.

And this is the trade-off: it’s not quite as exciting as other toys, but it can be purchased for less money. Is this worth it? Only you can decide, based on your budget.

This device makes me cum buckets, just not as quickly as some others. I need a good hour or so of this thing buzzing away to get off. If I’m looking for a quick prostate orgasm, I’ll go for my Billy. If I wanna take my time and build things up for an explosive orgasm, this is a great choice.

For the money, I feel it’s a good value.

The Packaging

This one doesn’t come with a box. Rather, it comes in a plastic “clam shell” package. Thankfully it’s not the kind that takes an act of god or a samurai sword to open. Simply pull it apart and it’s open!

Specifications

  • 1.1 inches at the widest point
  • 4 inches in length

This toy is phthalate-free! Read more about why this is important.

Vibrator and batteries

The removable vibrator is constructed with a plastic case. Therefore, it’s probably not as durable as the Vice, which has a metal enclosure. As long as it doesn’t get dropped on hard concrete, it should be fine. This cheaper construction results in a much more affordable toy.

It’s 100% waterproof, with a rubber o-ring and sealed control button.

The vibrator has 3 modes of operation, all controlled by pushing the purple button on the end.

Starting from the “off” position:

  1. One tap will start a slower, constant vibration
  2. Another tap will bump it up to a faster, more intense vibration that is still constant
  3. Finally, a third tap will make it buzz intermittently. The intensity is mode 2, with a pause in between. Buzz…pause…buzz…pause

To turn it off, simply hold the button down for a few seconds.

bullet and battery

Notice that the battery is not a standard size AA or AAA. It’s an LR1, size N 1.5v battery. These are easy enough to find at most stores. Just not as cheap or readily available as the more common sizes. Battery life is excellent. I’ve used mine for at least 5 hours and it shows no signs of dying out.

The silicone plug

Tantus’ premium silicone is one of the best on the market, in my opinion. This stuff feels luxurious, comfortable and downright amazing.

  • hypoallergenic
  • dishwasher safe
  • eco-friendly
  • you can also boil it, to make 100% sure its sterilized between uses

NOTE: removing the bullet from the silicone plug was initially challenging for me. I shoved it way in there the first time I used it, and it was difficult to pull out. I had to squeeze the middle of the toy with my fingers and ease it out. I found that as long as I don’t cram it in there tight, and use dry, clean fingers it comes out with ease.

Recommended lube

As with most silicone toys, I always recommend a water based lube. You can read more about lubrication here.

How it feels

Oddly enough, one of my favorite things about it is the sensation in my rectum when the head (bulb) first pops into my ass. Once that bulb is about halfway in, the sphincter muscles will pull it right in, like it’s on auto pilot. It starts with a feeling of fullness, a slight stretch in the rectum. Then comfort once it’s in there.

Then, it’s just a matter of pushing it the rest of the way in! My rectal muscles won’t pull it all the way in, so it requires some manual intervention to get it home.

My first two tries with this device were…uneventful. I used it while in bed, about an hour before sleepy time. After popping it in and turning on the vibe, I would get that warm fuzzy feeling throughout my midsection. I just couldn’t go all the way and achieve the orgasm I was hoping for. The sensations were all there, but just not enough to send me over the edge.

By the third try, however, I realized that this toy just took a little more time and relaxation to get me revved up and going. Once I totally relaxed and let myself melt into the moment, everything was good. Every time after that, I came came like crazy when finishing myself off. LOADS and LOADS of those thick, white ropes came gushing out. And it was magnificent!

One of the great features of this device are the “ridges” located toward the base. Once inserted, and these ridges pop into your rectum, the Prostate Play isn’t going anywhere. This is especially useful when showering or standing up while using it.

Did I mention that using it while showering is a KILLER way to experience it??

As those ridges slide past the anal entry, the sensation feels like a slight tug as each one passes through. Kinda hot and kinky! I can feel each and every one of those ridges as they pop into place.

Keep in mind, these will create a slight amount of resistance when pulling it back out. It’s not uncomfortable, but it does take a slight tug to remove it.

These ridges will keep the toy firmly planted in your ass.

Now, regarding the vibrations. For such a small bullet, the vibes are pretty good. I just wish there was a lower frequency setting, where the vibes were intense, but not as fast. This is one aspect where my Lelo excels…nearly infinite modes of vibration.

These vibrations are focused mainly at the base of the toy, in and around the rectum. For me, I didn’t feel as much vibration at the tip as i had hoped. It would be so much better if the strong vibes traveled all the way up the shaft, straight into the bulb that hits the prostate. And, to be clear, the vibes do get there. They just aren’t as strong as I would like. Unfortunately, the design of the toy doesn’t seem to allow for this.

As a side note, I will say that the vibrations DO FEEL REALLY GOOD around my asshole. Almost exquisite. It’s an amazing anal vibrator, even if it doesn’t get me off as fast as i would like.

My rectum is definitely relaxed and feeling great afterward. Kinda like I got a professional massage.

How to use it

There are lots of options here. Since it stays in place so well, it can be used standing up, sitting down, on your side, etc. Almost any position imaginable will work.

Personally, using it while showering is an out of this world sensation. I can focus completely on my shower and the vibrations in my ass, without worry about it slipping out. Awesome!

Another great way to use it is in a semi-inclined sitting position. Like sitting in a recliner with the back halfway up. This allows for the weight of your body to press against the toy, maximizing the vibrations around the rectum. When doing this, just be careful not to put too much pressure on the power button, as it’s easy to bump it and make it go into the next vibration mode.

For even more information on how to use a prostate stimulator , see my preparation guide, right here.

I generally don’t power it up until it’s fully inserted. It’s just easier this way. However, it’s a trip to fire it up and THEN shove it in. For me, this adds a kink factor.

Very satisfying!

How to clean it

This is a snap. After use, I just put it in a sink with very warm water, add a little mild body wash and rub it down. Tantus also mentions that you can boil it, thus mitigating any chance of leaving any dirty stuff behind. I personally don’t find this necessary, but it’s great to know that this is an option.

NOTE: If you’re going to boil it, take the vibrator out! That hot water will damage the mechanism.
